About Me

Shane Shackleford is a sports writer residing in Speedwell, TN.  He has always been involved with sports at the local and state levels, first as a coach and later as a media member.

Shane has a passion for sports that began back in his hometown of Harlan, KY.  He was a letterman in basketball and baseball at Harlan High School, graduating in 1991.  After his high school days, he decided with his sister’s help he would go into education with an eye toward coaching high school men’s basketball.

After graduating from Southeast Community College and Lincoln Memorial University with his degree in education, Shane began his career as an educator.  Shane spent over 20 years as an educator in the Middlesboro Independent and Harlan County School Systems, retiring in 2016.

After many years as a coach at the elementary and middle school levels in Middlesboro, Shane was hired as an assistant men’s coach at Middlesboro, eventually working his way up to being appointed head coach in 2014.  After 13 years at Middlesboro, Shane moved on to Harlan County High School as an assistant, helping the Black Bears win their first regional basketball championship in school history.

When he retired from public life, Shane thought his sporting career had come to an end.  But through contacts he had made through the years, Shane found a new outlet for his sports passion: writing in the media.

Currently Shane is a sports columnist whose writing can be found on several websites including kysportsstyle.com online magazine and A Sea of Blue.  His columns also appear in the Harlan Daily Enterprise and Middlesboro Daily News.
